Wesley Rast was born in 1976 in Durham, NC. During high school he played drums in the reggae/rock band Screwface. He studied percussion at The North Carolina School of the Performing Arts from 1993 until 1997, when he started work as a dance accompanist at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Since then, Wesley has been employed by Wake Forest University, The North Carolina School of the Arts, The University of the Arts, Temple University, Swarthmore College, and Princeton University as an accompanist of Modern and African Dance. In North Carolina Wesley was a member of the Chapel Hill band the Jumpstarts. He currently resides in Philadelphia, where he performs with Leana Song, The Uptown Rebels, Myself, Oud Blues, The Dialects, and Alokli African Dance and Drum Ensemble.
